Project: Sensitive Refurbishment and extension
Somerset
Phase 1 of Our Sensitive Extension & Renovation of a Grade II Jacobean Property
We are proud to share the initial phase of our latest specialist project: the careful extension and renovation of a Grade II* listed Jacobean property. Working closely with both the owners and their architect, our team ensured that each renovation detail harmonised with the original 17th-century architecture, meeting all listed building requirements and gaining the necessary approvals.

Sensitive Extension & Renovation of a Grade II Jacobean Property
A key focus was transforming an outdated 1980s kitchen, brick garage, and internal service corridors into a spacious, modern kitchen, open-plan dining area, and an adjoining suite of utility rooms. Externally, we used authentic Bath Stone for new walls and installed Ham Stone window mullions with steel-framed windows, complementing the adjacent Jacobean stonework. Internally, the new layout merges seamlessly with the historical structure, while large-scale windows and doors open onto the surrounding garden, enhancing natural light and offering stunning views.
In redesigning the interior flow, we removed redundant corridors, allowing for a new ground-floor bathroom, an expanded master bedroom with an en suite, and a set of walk-in wardrobes. These changes were thoughtfully crafted to bring modern comfort and convenience while respecting the home’s historic character.
During this phase, we also redecorated throughout and updated essential infrastructure. We fully renewed the property’s wiring and plumbing, adding underfloor heating in the new kitchen for efficient warmth without compromising aesthetics. In the original part of the home, cast iron radiators provide effective heating for large, high-ceilinged rooms. These updates ensure both the functionality and safety of this heritage property, extending its longevity.
Throughout, our team maintained a close collaboration with the architect and the property owners. This teamwork allowed us to honour the historic significance of the Jacobean architecture while adapting the home for modern living, achieving a blend of historical preservation and contemporary comfort.
